BDM files contain the information about an AVCHD recording and the files that are a part of that recording. These files are typically seen on non-optical media such as thumb drives. These files are typically the first opened by a program attempting to open an AVCHD recording because they contain the information about all the other files; they are thus commonly named "index.bdm" or similar.
