SRT file extension
Subtitle File
.SRT files are text files that contain subtitle information and are supported by many video applications (see above for more information). SRT files are supported by many video formats such as DivX, DVD etc.
As .SRT files are simply text files, they can be opened or created using any standard text editor. There are no defined standards for these .SRT subtitle files, and different players support different features (such as HTML tags), however it is advised not to do so as some players and editors have problems understanding them which can cause a number of problems. The following text structure/format is the most common:
1
00:00:45,000 --> 00:00:50,400
Hello
2
00:00:50,300 --> 00:00:58,200
Goodbye
In the above example, two subtitles will be generated. The first (number 1) will be displayed in your movie at 45 seconds for around 5 seconds. The second subtitle will be displayed at 50seconds for around 8 seconds.
