.PPJ File Extension

Adobe Premiere Project File

Video File
The PPJ (Premiere Project) extension indicates a file used by Adobe Premiere, an application part of the Adobe Creative Suite developed by Adobe Systems Inc. and designed for video editing, graphic design and web development. Adobe Premiere is a timeline-based application and constitutes the video editing component of the suite. The first version was released in 1991 with over 10 iterations following until version 7 when Adobe rewrote the source code of the entire program and changed its name to Adobe Premiere Pro.

PPJ files are created with Adobe Premiere 6.X and are used for saving video projects. They contain information about all the video clips of a project along with all the effects, transitions and other video editing elements. PPJ files can only be created with the Windows version of Adobe Premiere and aren't used for storing all the media content in the file itself. They only contain references to all the media assets.

How to open PPJ files

Adobe Premiere Pro no longer uses the PPJ format for storing project data but Windows users can still import PPJ files into Premiere Pro. To use the contents of a PPJ file on a Mac, users have to first save it to a Mac-compatible format with Adobe Premiere Pro. The new format for saving and exporting video projects is PRPROJ.
