.AWM File Extension

Animation Works Movie

Question: What is an AWM File?

Have you found, downloaded or received an AWM file, but don't know which software program is required to open it?

Before attempting to open an AWM file, you'll need to determine what kind of file you are dealing with and whether it is even possible to open or view the file format.

Answer: Files which are given the .AWM extension are known as Animation Works Movie files, however other file types may also use this extension. If you are aware of any additional file formats that use the AWM extension, please let us know.

How to open a AWM file:

The best way to open an AWM file is to simply double-click it and let the default assoisated application open the file. If you are unable to open the file this way, it may be because you do not have the correct application associated with the extension to view or edit the AWM file.

This file format was added to our database by a visitor to this site, but no additional information was provided. We have yet to investigate this file type further, or there was not enough information available at the time to report accurately on the format.

Please check back soon for more information as we are constantly updating our file descriptions based on search frequency.

Tip: Try to open the AWM file using a text-editor such as Notepad, as many file types contain simply contain unformatted plain-text and can viewed correctly using this method.

Hello, I use "Animation Works", Macintosh version all the time. This software dates back to 1990, although its unique file types are recognized by later programs such as Astound and Animation Works Interactive.

If you are looking to convert animations into a modern video format and have the original software, you can export frames into "PICS" format. Having a PICS file, you would use a program such as Graphic converter or After Effects to convert to GIF or a modern video format.

It is probably best to play back a movie and use your computer's firewire/video-OUT capabilities with an external recorder. It is not known whether real-time screen capture software exists that is compatible with Animation Works movies during playback.

Feel free to ask me any questions, as very few people are as familiar with this software as myself (this includes original authors!).

We had an OEM copy of Animaton Works that came with an old 486 PC. It was pre loaded with no backup disks. Is it available anywhere. My son made tons of little movies that we would love to watch again 16 years later.
